iTunes 8 has started to hide settings from the user controls. Here is how to bring them back in Windows:

Edit the settings file:

you need to back up, then edit, the iTunesPrefs.xml file in C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes with an editor and add the following two lines:

<key>show-genre-when-browsing</key>
<data>False</data>

Further keys:

defaults delete com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links

defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links -bool FALSE
